Operating during Boil Water Notices

The VistaPure system is designed to remove dissolved solids (TDS) from municipal source water. By definition, this includes the removal of bacteria and any other contaminants down to a molecular level.

That said, we recommend turning OFF the water supply to the VistaPure system and not using it during boil water notices.

Most dental offices close temporarily during boil water notices for two main reasons:

  1. Many practices believe it is not worth the potential risk to operate when city authorities have made a boil water declaration.
  2. Since water should not be used for washing hands, drinking fountains, etc., it’s generally not worth the trouble to operate under such restrictive conditions.

Further, although the VistaPure system filters will remove microbiological contaminants, the potential exists for bacteriological colonization of the filters and even "grow through" into dental unit waterlines if the filters are not changed at appropriate intervals.

After the boil notice is lifted, the water storage tank should be emptied and the system sanitized to ensure any possible contamination is removed.
